My FFXIV Experience

After having played around with other characters on other servers the past weekends, and finally ending up on Midgard last weekend with AP and Impact, I got my PGL to 31 this weekend. My previous classes were 16 LNC and 12 GLA.

Melee jobs all seem to play very similarly. The basic idea is use a weapon skill, then combo it with another skill. Most jobs seem to have a 1-2 combo, one setup weapon skill, followed up with another skill for extra damage. The skills can be done out of order if desired, but doing them in order gives bonus damage.

PGL on the other hand has a 1-2-3 combo, that must be done in sequence. PGL has various 'stances', and certain skills are only accessible once you are in the appropriate stance. Executing skill 1, will then put you in the appropriate stance to execute skill 2, which in turn will set you up to execute skill 3. In between, you're allowed to use other skills, as long as it doesn't change your stance, and still get the combos bonus. Primarily, these other skills will be from other classes, since those are guaranteed to not change your stance.

Also got Weaver up to 20 this weekend. I can start breaking things down into materia! Yay! Only problem is that I wasn't able to actually attached these material to my gear. In order to do so requires me to obtain some Carbonized Matter, and I wasn't able to locate where to get this item. I think in 1.0, they could be obtained through mining, so my guess is that that may still be true in ARR. Currently my mining is still pretty low, level 9, and I haven't seen any Carbonized Matter in my gathering log. Maybe it's a higher level item. At any rate, I'll dick around with mining some more next weekend to see if that's true or not.

Screens are in previous post!

Yay, Vanh's blog is active again too :D

And it brings the unique, lower perspective and camera angles of a Lalafell... >.>

Hmm... I think that converting gear to materia can be done once you finish the level 19/20 quest. I've converted a bunch of gear to materia and I haven't leveled any crafting above level 5 yet. I *think* you need to be level 19/20 in the appropriate craft to attach materia to gear, though I don't know where to get Carbonized Matter either xD. It's definitely worth leveling different crafts just to save on the repair costs of gear though. I'm gil-poor right now due to the high cost of repairs.

I'm going to miss those camera angles...

I didn't know any better, but you're right about being able to convert to materia at 19. At 20 of a craft, you get a quest to get the ability to meld materia to gear. Based on the info from http://eorzeareborn.com/a-materia-overview/ Carbonized Matter is a level 20 harvest, requiring 16+ in mining or bontany. This would mean you would need to level crafting and harvesting in parallel.

When it comes to repairing, you really need to be harvesting your own Dark Matter, or you won't be saving a whole lot of gil. To fix level 30 gear, you need level 3 Dark Matter, which npcs sell for 70 gil. Repairing from npc costs 100 gil, but saves you time.

Ah... so... leveling a craft just for repairs isn't worth it to save money... I wonder if you can repair gear in the field, say in the middle of a dungeon...
